My Approach
My approach is to meet my students where they are. What does that mean? Everybody comes to work from a different place and my focus is to connect with them without judgement or expectation of what they know or believe. For me, I trust that the actor is serious, willing and ready to work. My job is then to create an individual performance plan that is accessible, available, attainable, and actionable for their level of training. The work is always about investigation and inquiry; it's about experimenting with boundaries, being self-reflective without shame, without bullying, and without competition. I love collaborating with with my actors, probing for principles to work by. As a teacher I have discovered, through trial and error, techniques that compliment a variety of training methods.
I'm a big fan of original thought; I'm a big fan of playable verbs, of "Oh no, you didn't", of getting to the job early, of leaving "it" at the door - a big fan of deadlines, goals, and targets; a big fan of surrender and unconditional love, of having the right gear, of "Okay, no problem, we can do this instead." I'm a big fan of compliments, a big fan of clear doable action, of process, of product, a big fan of "working until it works" and getting out of your own way. It's all about working your program and asking for help.
