EXPERIENCE
My first acting and directing experience was at an all boys Catholic prep school in Western New York.
I continued developing my interest in "all things theater" first at Emerson College and then at The Herbert Berghof Studios in New York City.
Feeling myself drawn toward becoming a teacher and director, I then got my masters at Teachers College, Columbia University. My first job was directing the theater program at a small private high school in Boston.
My focus was to develop original stories that reflected the life experience of my students. It was there that I recognized my passion and calling to become an ensemble director. In other words, every member of the ensemble, cast or crew, have shared ownership of the story, no matter how big or small their role is in the production.
I took that understanding to my next job, teaching at a prominent high school in the MetroWest area known for its theater program. During my lengthy tenure there, I transformed the theater program, both through academic offerings and the after school theater performances. to reflect my commitment to story and ensemble training.
I worked with actors to write original plays and introduced them to the techniques, styles and rituals of various acting teachers and cultures. This recipe of techniques included Michael Chekhov, Stanislavski, Meyerhold, Anne Bogart, Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Laban Movement.
